bendi/flexi training

RTITB Pivot Steer training (commonly referred to as Bendi, Flexi, or Articulated truck training) equips operators with the specialized skills needed to handle machinery that "pivots" in the center. This design allows for high-density storage in narrow aisles where standard forklifts cannot operate.

As of January 19, 2026, this course adheres to the latest ABA workplace transport category codes introduced to clarify and align testing standards across the UK.

Equipment Categories

The training covers specific ABA (Accrediting Bodies Association) codes for pivot steer machinery:

P1: Rider-operated pivot steer trucks (powered by electric or fuel).

P2: Pedestrian-operated pivot steer trucks.

Course Durations

The length of the course depends on the operator’s existing experience level:

Novice Course (3–5 Days): For beginners with no prior forklift experience.

Experienced Operator Course (2–3 Days): For those with significant experience but no formal certificate.

Conversion Course (1–2 Days): For operators already certified on other truck types, such as counterbalance.

Refresher Course (1 Day): For currently certified operators renewing their registration.

Core Syllabus

The course is divided into theoretical and practical learning, featuring:

Specialized Stability: Detailed instruction on the unique stability factors of an articulated chassis compared to a rigid truck.

Narrow Aisle Maneuvering: Practical training in steering (forward and reverse) and precision load handling in confined warehouse environments.

Pre-Use Inspection: Learning to identify defects and conduct daily maintenance checks on hydraulic and steering systems.

Load Handling: Safe techniques for stacking and de-stacking at various racking levels (ground, eye, and high level).

Safety Regulations: Understanding operator responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, PUWER, and LOLER.

Certification and Assessment

To qualify, candidates must pass three assessments:

Written Theory Test: A multiple-choice exam on safety codes and operational theory.

Pre-Use Inspection Test: A practical demonstration of mandatory safety-critical machine checks.

Basic Operating Skills Test: A practical assessment of maneuvering and load-handling skills.

Successful delegates are registered on the National Operator Registration Scheme (NORS) and receive an RTITB eCertificate and eCard, which are valid for three years.
